Itinerary

Our program will start at a hotel near Tampa or Miami Airport. That evening we will meet for an orientation at the hotel.

DAY 1

Our flight from Tampa or Miami to Havana, Cuba will take 45-50 minutes. Once in Havana a bilingual Cuban Tour Guide who will be with the group every day during the program will greet us. As soon as we get to our AC bus we will be on our way to accommodations at our hotel in Havana. (2017-Capri Hotel) This evening we will meet for a welcome dinner.

DAY 2

Our first day in Havana will start with a buffet breakfast at the hotel (all breakfasts are included), followed by a conference titled  “Contemporary Art in Cuba”. After the conference we will be ready for a visit to the National Museum of Fine Arts. Its halls treasure the Cuban Art Collection, the most comprehensive parade of who’s who in a history of art making spanning nearly three centuries. Our visit will be followed with lunch (all lunches are included).

DAY 3

We will start the day visiting the studios at the University of the Arts (ISA) and, after lunch, visit the studio of artist Jaime Fuster.

DAY 4

Founded in 1519, UNESCO declared Old Havana Universal Patrimony of Humanity. You will learn about Old Havana as a unique urban sustainability development project that integrates community and economic development with art. Through a walking tour will visit Plaza de Armas, Old Havana scale model and Plaza Vieja. After lunch we will visit San Francisco de Asis Plaza and visit artist's studios.

DAY 5

On Day 5 we will continue with our exploration of art and culture in Old Havana visiting Plaza de la Catedral, the Wilfredo Lam Center for Contemporary Art, the Experimental Graphic Workshop, the Museum of Colonial Art and artists studios. After lunch we will visit the Arts and Crafts Fair in Old Havana.

DAY 6 - departure for five nights program

After breakfast we will visit the city of Pinar del Rio and the studio-house of Pedro Pablo Oliva. Pedro Pablo Oliva Rodríguez (Pinar del Río, 1949) is considered to be one of the most outstanding living masters in the Cuban art scene. For more than four decades the artist’s irrepressible imagination and relentless scrutiny of his circumstances have combined to yield a prodigious oeuvre in technical mastery, visual allure, psychological shrewdness and conceptual coherence. Unruly heir of the so-called “generation of the certain hope” in the 70’s -incarnation of the Promethean ideals stirred into the melting pot of early Cuban Revolution-, his work broke ideological and aesthetic boundaries. At noon we will visit the Valley of Viñales for lunch and a local farm.

DAY 7

Our last day in Havana will allow for individual plans from several options to be presented.  In the evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner.
